What to Expect!

We know that visiting a new church can be an intimidating experience, but it is our goal at First Christian to make your first visit as pleasant and non-threatening as possible. In order to make your first visit easy, we’ve tried to anticipate some questions you might have:

For our 8:15 AM and 10:20 AM services…

What are your services like? Our services are usually between 45 minutes and an hour in length. Our music is traditional in style. We welcome people who like to dress casually (t-shirt and jeans) as well as those who prefer more formal attire (a suit and tie or a dress) and you will see a mixture of both. We want you to come as you are.

Will you single me out as a visitor or make me stand up?We will gladly welcome you as you come through the door and give you directions if you need them, but we will not single you out during the service.

Where do I park?Plenty of parking is available on the east side of the building. For visitors, we have a couple of reserved places for your convenience, close to our main entrance.

What entrance do I use?The closest entrance to the sanctuary is on the east side of the building under the drive-thru awning.

When do I need to arrive? Our worship services begin at 8:15 & 10:20 A.M., with Sunday School for all ages beginning at 9:00 A.M. For your first visit, it would probably be a good idea for you to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early to get situated.

What do I do with my infant or toddler during the worship service?
If you would like to worship in peace while your children are in a safe and fun environment designed just for them, we have a great nursery for your children during Sunday School and our second service. If you would like to keep your infant or toddler with you in service and are scared they might be disruptive, we have a cry room available on the south side of our sanctuary with a couple of rocking chairs and a large window so you can enjoy the service while not worrying about the noises your child may make.

Do you have something for young children during church? We have Children’s Church available during our 10:20 service for preschoolers through 2nd grade. Children will be dismissed during the service to attend Children’s Church.

Can I keep my children with me during the worship service?Of course, families are always welcome to worship together. For your convenience, we have children’s bags located in the narthex for your children to have something to do during the service.

Will you be having a communion service the day I visit?Yes!  As Disciples we offer communion every week, and if you are a follower of Christ you are welcome to participate in the Lord’s Supper with us.

Will I need a Bible? You do not have to bring a Bible. We project the words of the scripture text on the screen while it is read aloud.  It’s never a bad idea to bring your personal Bible to highlight and make yourself some notes.

Will I be expected to give during the offering? If you want, or feel called to!  Otherwise, we will not pressure you into anything.

Is your sanctuary accessible?Yes, our building is on one level, and the restrooms off the Sanctuary are accessible to people with disabilities.

For The Refuge…

What is the Refuge like? The Refuge is right at an hour in length. The music is contemporary. Don’t worrying about getting all dressed up.  We just want you to come as you are.

Will you single me out as a visitor or make me stand up?We will gladly welcome you as you come through the door and give you directions if you need them, but we will not single you out during the service.

Where do I park?Plenty of parking is available on the east side of the building in our parking lot, with overflow available in the Sunflower parking lot.
